Why do my brake lights only come on when I have the headlights turned off?

you either have the wrong bulbs in it or they aren't making a good contact,there's different bulbs for different cars and even though sometimes they will fit ,they wont work right,or you could have lost a ground wire,anythings possible with today's cars and there wiring,good luck.
